As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at GCM, I gained hands-on experience in precision manufacturing and design optimization. I managed precision measurement equipment and performed manual inspections with calipers, micrometers, and gage devices, ensuring strict adherence to GD&T Design Standards.
I designed, validated, and assembled workholding fixtures using SolidWorks, Mastercam, and VERICUT, making essential adjustments such as deburring and chamfering for optimal functionality. My role extended to operating 3- and 5-axis CNC mills, where I developed unique fixture plates for calibration, machining, and quality inspection.
Throughout the internship, I resolved complex machining challenges, including workpiece deformation and spindle tool failures, while optimizing toolpaths to improve efficiency. Additionally, I created comprehensive documentation to streamline design processes, fostering better cross-functional collaboration across departments and enhancing overall workflow efficiency.
This experience allowed me to sharpen my technical skills in advanced manufacturing and problem-solving while contributing to high-precision production goals.
